It’s kind of hard to describe what’s so appealing about Quimet & Quimet, and these pictures certainly don’t do the restaurant justice. It’s been around for over 100 years, with the same family serving up small plates (called “pintxos” here) from behind the counter. It’s standing room only, and it’s one of (the most?) famous tapas bars in the city, so it’s shoulder-to-shoulder people trying to get close to the counter to order. We happened to find a little space in the back to put our drinks down, and my brave fiancé muscled his way to the front to order in Spanish for us (thank god this guy has no fear about getting around in a foreign country). I have to say, literally nothing on the menu really APPEALED to me. It wasn’t, you know, comfort food. Lots of fish and preserved things from cans. And yet everything we ordered was just delicious. Simple, beautiful layers of quality ingredients. Mostly on toasts, and I’m a sucker for toast. It was just a different experience than I’ve ever had anywhere else in the world, and I highly recommend it!
