Back from visiting his family outside of the city, my boyfriend and I had dinner at Zapiecek, which has several locations in Warsaw that made it seem kind of touristy to us, but who can resist a menu with 30 kinds of dumplings? Jack started with a bowl of żurek, which uses rye flour to give it a sour taste and is always served with egg and boiled sausage. Then of course we followed that up with some pierogi ruskie (Russian dumplings), my favorite kind, which are filled with cheese and potato and covered in bacon, onions, and tons of bacon fat.
