And that’s it for Barcelona photos! I’ll leave you with one last view over the city out to the ocean before my pictures depart to the island of Mallorca. Barcelona was even more wonderful than I had imagined—all of the charm of places like Prague and Paris but with a beach!—and everyone who told me I wouldn’t like it as much as Madrid has no idea how much I like palm trees. People said the food wouldn’t be as delicious as other places, but it was all homey, comforting things like potatoes topped with ham and aioli, paellas with land and sea animals, and everything stuffed into a croquette, a dream! One of the things we actually liked best about Spain, as annoying as it could be at times, was their dedication to the afternoon siesta. I remember walking up to a restaurant in the middle of the afternoon while all of the staff was on break and asking just to have a glass of wine, not even any food. And they just flat-out refused! It feels like the promise of more money doesn’t control everything there, unlike in the U.S. Can’t wait to go back and stay in the Gothic Quarter next time!
