The pałac Łazienkowski (or Palace on the Isle) in Łazienki Park was originally a bathhouse built in the 1600s, but it became the Polish king’s summer residence in the 1700s. My boyfriend’s uncle was the director of Łazienki Park until his recent death, so Jack got to spend his visits back to Poland living in the castle apartment and running around the park after hours. I’ve seen old home movies of him unwrapping Christmas gifts . . . in a castle.
