At Restauracja Polska Różana outside of Łazienki Park in Warsaw, my boyfriend and his parents all ordered the chłodnik, a cold borscht (barszcz in Poland) that they add sour cream to so it turns bright pink. It’s maybe a little weird to look at (mmm, a big bowl of Pepto Bismol), but it sure is delicious on a warm day.

≫ Next: Warsaw’s Palace of Culture and Science, the tallest building in Poland, was a gift from Stalin in Russia in 1955 to impress the Poles with the wealth of Communism. But at this point, Warsaw was still in ruins from World War II, so it was kiiiiiiiiind of gauche to drop this giant fancy building in the middle of a bombed-out neighborhood. On the other hand, constructing it gave jobs to thousands of Poles, and it’s now filled with museums, a theater, and some really cute bars where young artists hang out.

≪ Previous: For an afternoon snack one day in Warsaw, we went to Restauracja Polska Różana to sit in its beautiful garden and relax with an iced coffee (which was topped with whipped cream and chocolate like everywhere else in Europe). I got this delicious beef tenderloin tartare when my boyfriend’s family told me tartare is very common in Poland. Jack’s dad acted like I was breaking the bank with my dish that cost 39 złote, but it turns out that’s a little over $9 USD. ☺️
